Medicine Information
What a medicine treats, how it works, what side effects to expect and the warnings that genuinely matter.
HealthWiky does not give dosage advice
You will not find “take two tablets twice a day” anywhere on this site. The right dose depends on your weight, age, kidney and liver function, other medicines and medical history. That is a prescribing decision for a doctor who can examine you — not something a website should hand out.
Amlodipine
Amlodipine is a widely used blood pressure medicine. It relaxes and widens the blood vessels so blood flows through them more easily.
Amoxicillin
Amoxicillin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections. It does not work against colds, flu or viral fever.
Aspirin (Low Dose)
Low-dose aspirin makes blood less likely to clot. It is taken to prevent a second heart attack or stroke — not as a general precaution for everyone.
Atorvastatin
Atorvastatin lowers cholesterol and, more importantly, lowers the risk of heart attack and stroke. It belongs to the group of medicines called statins.
Azithromycin
Azithromycin is an antibiotic used for certain bacterial infections. Like all antibiotics, it does nothing for colds, flu or viral fever.
Cetirizine
Cetirizine is an antihistamine used for allergy symptoms such as sneezing, a running or itchy nose, watery eyes and hives.
Domperidone
Domperidone reduces nausea and vomiting and helps the stomach empty faster. In India it is most often seen combined with an acidity medicine in capsules ending in -D.
Glimepiride
Glimepiride lowers blood sugar in type 2 diabetes by making the pancreas release more insulin. Unlike metformin, it can push blood sugar too low.
Ibuprofen
Ibuprofen relieves pain, brings down fever and reduces swelling. It works differently from paracetamol, and it must never be used when dengue is suspected.
Levocetirizine
Levocetirizine is an antihistamine for allergy symptoms — sneezing, a running or itchy nose, watery eyes and hives. It is the more active half of cetirizine.
Levothyroxine
Levothyroxine replaces the hormone an underactive thyroid is not making. It is a replacement, not a stimulant, and how you take it matters as much as the dose.
Metformin
Metformin is usually the first medicine prescribed for type 2 diabetes. It lowers blood sugar mainly by reducing the amount of sugar the liver releases.
Montelukast
Montelukast helps prevent asthma symptoms and eases allergic rhinitis. It is a preventer taken daily — it cannot stop an asthma attack that is already happening.
Omeprazole
Omeprazole reduces the amount of acid the stomach produces. It is used for acidity, reflux and stomach ulcers.
Ondansetron
Ondansetron stops nausea and vomiting. It is effective, but it treats the symptom only — in a stomach infection, rehydration is still what actually matters.
Pantoprazole
Pantoprazole reduces the amount of acid the stomach produces. It is used for acidity, reflux and ulcers, and works best taken before food.
Paracetamol
Paracetamol is a common medicine used to bring down fever and relieve mild to moderate pain. It is generally safe at recommended doses, but overdose seriously damages the liver.
Rabeprazole
Rabeprazole reduces the acid the stomach makes. It treats acidity, reflux and ulcers, and works in the same way as omeprazole and pantoprazole.
Salbutamol Inhaler
Salbutamol is the reliever inhaler for asthma. It opens tight airways within minutes, but it does not treat the underlying inflammation that causes asthma.
Telmisartan
Telmisartan lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. It is one of the most widely prescribed blood pressure medicines in India, and it protects the heart and kidneys as well.
